Ingredients:
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 ½ cups powdered sugar (for decoration)
- 2-3 tbsp milk (for decoration)
- Food coloring (pastel colors, for decoration)
- Sprinkles or edible decorations (for decoration)
Instructions:
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, cream softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in egg and vanilla until well combined.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Divide dough into two discs, wrap, and chill for at least 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface to about ¼ inch thickness.
- Cut out cookie shapes using cookie cutters and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges just begin to turn golden.
- Remove from the oven and allow to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.
- In a bowl, mix powdered sugar with milk until the desired consistency is achieved for icing.
- Divide into portions and add food coloring if desired.
- Decorate cookies with icing and sprinkles as desired.
