Ingredients:

  • 1 pound (450 g) ground beef (80% lean)
  • 1 cup (100 g) breadcrumbs (plain or Italian seasoned)
  • 1/3 cup (80 ml) milk (whole or 2%)
  • 1 large (50 g) egg
  • 1 teaspoon (5 g) Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon (5 g) onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon (5 g) garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup (100 g) sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/4 cup (60 g) ketchup mixed with 1 tablespoon (15 ml) Worcestershire sauce (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or spray with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Mix until just combined; avoid overmixing.
  4. Chill the meat mixture in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to firm up.
  5. Once chilled, take a tablespoon of meat mixture and flatten it in the palm of your hand.
  6. Place 1 tablespoon of shredded cheddar cheese in the center, then fold the meat around the cheese to form a ball.
  7. Place the meatball seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet. Repeat with remaining mixture.
  8. Optional: Brush the tops of the morsels with the ketchup mixture.
  9. Bake for 20-25 minutes until cooked through (internal temperature should reach 160°F/71°C) and golden brown.
  10. Let cool slightly before serving.
