Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend for flavor)
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 large russet potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions or chives

Instructions:

  1. Boil diced potatoes in salted water until tender, about 15 minutes. Drain, then mash with butter, milk, salt, and pepper to desired smoothness.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, sauté diced onions until translucent. Add minced garlic, cook for another minute. Stir in ground beef, browning until fully cooked; drain excess fat.
  3. Mix in beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, paprika, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  4. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). In a greased baking dish, spread the meat mixture evenly. Layer the mashed potatoes on top, smoothing them out. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over potatoes.
  5. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until cheese is melted and golden brown.
  6. Remove from oven, drizzle with sour cream, and sprinkle green onions on top. Let cool slightly before serving.
