Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef or turkey
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • ¾ cup milk

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Drain excess fat.
  3. Add diced onion and bell pepper. Sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, garlic powder, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  5. In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  6. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  7. Stir in milk until just combined.
  8. Spread the Sloppy Joe filling in the bottom of the baking dish.
  9. Dot or drop spoonfuls of biscuit dough over the filling.
  10. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the biscuit topping is golden brown.
  11. Let cool slightly before serving. Garnish if desired.
