Ingredients:
- 1 lb ground beef or turkey
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1 bell pepper, diced
- 1 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- ¾ cup milk
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Drain excess fat.
- Add diced onion and bell pepper. Sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, garlic powder, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in milk until just combined.
- Spread the Sloppy Joe filling in the bottom of the baking dish.
- Dot or drop spoonfuls of biscuit dough over the filling.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the biscuit topping is golden brown.
- Let cool slightly before serving. Garnish if desired.
