- 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
- 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup (240ml) whole milk
- 3 cups (375g) peeled and diced apples (e.g., Bramley or Granny Smith)
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease the cake pan with butter or line with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt; set aside.
- In a separate bowl, cream together softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Drizzle in eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients and milk, alternating between the two and mixing until just combined.
- Gently fold in the diced apples until evenly distributed.
- Transfer the batter to the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
- Mix brown sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle on top (optional).
- Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
