Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks or 227g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3-4 cups (360-480g) powdered sugar, sifted
  • 2-4 tablespoons (30-60 ml) milk or heavy cream
  • 1-2 teaspoons (5-10 ml) pure vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter with an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
  2. Gradually add the sifted powdered sugar, one cup at a time, beating on low speed until incorporated. Alternate with adding milk or cream.
  3. Mix in the vanilla extract and salt.
  4. Gradually add more milk or cream until the frosting reaches your desired consistency. It should be smooth, creamy, and easily spreadable.
  5. Beat on medium-high speed for 1-2 minutes to ensure the frosting is light and airy.
  6. If desired, cover and chill for 10 minutes for a slightly firmer consistency before frosting.
