Ingredients:
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Royal icing or fondant for decorating
- Food coloring (if using icing)
- Sprinkles or edible glitter
Instructions:
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until a dough forms.
- Divide the dough in half; flatten into discs, wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- On a floured surface, roll out one disc of chilled dough to about ¼ inch thick.
- Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes and place cookies on a lined baking sheet.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until edges are golden.
- Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.
- Decorate as desired once cool.
