Ingredients:

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Royal icing or fondant for decorating
  • Food coloring (if using icing)
  • Sprinkles or edible glitter

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until a dough forms.
  5. Divide the dough in half; flatten into discs, wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  7. On a floured surface, roll out one disc of chilled dough to about ¼ inch thick.
  8. Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes and place cookies on a lined baking sheet.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until edges are golden.
  10. Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.
  11. Decorate as desired once cool.
