Ingredients:
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 1 tsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp balsamic vinegar
- 1/2 tsp dried thyme
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 cup Gruyère cheese, shredded
- 1/2 cup Mozzarella cheese, shredded
Instructions:
- Melt the butter in a skillet over medium-low heat. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally.
- Stir in the brown sugar, balsamic vinegar, and thyme. Continue cooking until the onions are mahogany-colored and fragrant, approximately 15-20 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and sour cream together until the texture is smooth and velvety.
- Stir in the garlic powder, salt, and pepper, then fold in the caramelized onions until evenly distributed.
- Spread the mixture into an 8x8 inch oven-safe baking dish.
- Top evenly with the shredded Gruyère and mozzarella cheeses.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown on top.
