Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp balsamic vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp dried thyme
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 cup Gruyère cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup Mozzarella cheese, shredded

Instructions:

  1. Melt the butter in a skillet over medium-low heat. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally.
  2. Stir in the brown sugar, balsamic vinegar, and thyme. Continue cooking until the onions are mahogany-colored and fragrant, approximately 15-20 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  3. In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and sour cream together until the texture is smooth and velvety.
  4. Stir in the garlic powder, salt, and pepper, then fold in the caramelized onions until evenly distributed.
  5. Spread the mixture into an 8x8 inch oven-safe baking dish.
  6. Top evenly with the shredded Gruyère and mozzarella cheeses.
  7. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown on top.
