Ingredients:

  • 2 ¾ cups (340 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (227 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cups (300 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • Colored sprinkles or granulated sugar (for decoration)
  • Icing (for piping, optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
  4. Mix in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  6. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
  7. On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about ¼ inch thick, then cut into desired shapes using cookie cutters.
  8. Place on prepared baking sheets and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until lightly golden around the edges.
  9. Let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Once cooled, decorate as desired with icing or sprinkles.
