Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (120 g) cornmeal
  • 4 cups (950 ml) water or chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon (6 g) salt
  • 2 tablespoons (30 g) unsalted butter
  • Maple syrup, honey, or brown sugar, to taste
  • Crumbled bacon or sausage
  • Grated cheese

Instructions:

  1. In a medium saucepan, bring water or broth to a boil.
  2. Add the salt to the boiling liquid.
  3. Gradually whisk in the cornmeal to avoid clumps.
  4. Reduce heat to low, continuously stirring with a wooden spoon until mixture thickens, about 15-20 minutes.
  5. Once thickened and creamy, remove from heat and stir in butter, if desired.
  6. Serve hot, topped with optional ingredients of your choice.
