Ingredients:
- 1 cup basmati rice (200g)
- 1 ½ cups water (360ml)
- 1 tablespoon ghee or unsalted butter (15g) (optional for flavor)
- ½ teaspoon salt (2g)
Instructions:
- Rinse the rice by measuring the basmati rice and placing it in a fine mesh sieve. Rinse under cold running water until the water runs clear to remove excess starch.
- Soak the rinsed rice in water for 30 minutes (optional). Drain afterward. This step enhances the texture but can be skipped if desired.
- In a medium saucepan, combine the soaked (or unsoaked) rice, water, salt, and ghee or butter (if using). Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
- Once boiling, reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes. Avoid lifting the lid to maintain steam.
- After cooking, remove from heat and let it sit covered for 5-10 minutes. This allows the rice to finish cooking and results in fluffiness.
- Use a fork to fluff the rice gently before serving.
