Ingredients:

  • 1 cup basmati rice (200g)
  • 1 ½ cups water (360ml)
  • 1 tablespoon ghee or unsalted butter (15g) (optional for flavor)
  • ½ teaspoon salt (2g)

Instructions:

  1. Rinse the rice by measuring the basmati rice and placing it in a fine mesh sieve. Rinse under cold running water until the water runs clear to remove excess starch.
  2. Soak the rinsed rice in water for 30 minutes (optional). Drain afterward. This step enhances the texture but can be skipped if desired.
  3. In a medium saucepan, combine the soaked (or unsoaked) rice, water, salt, and ghee or butter (if using). Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
  4. Once boiling, reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes. Avoid lifting the lid to maintain steam.
  5. After cooking, remove from heat and let it sit covered for 5-10 minutes. This allows the rice to finish cooking and results in fluffiness.
  6. Use a fork to fluff the rice gently before serving.
