Ingredients:

  • 4 bratwurst sausages (approximately 14 oz or 400 g)
  • 1 cup (240 mL) of your favorite beer (lager or pale ale works well)
  • 1 medium onion, sliced (about 150 g)
  • 1 tablespoon (15 mL) of olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh buns (4)
  • Sauerkraut or grilled peppers (for topping)

Instructions:

  1. Slice the onion.
  2. Measure out the beer.
  3. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  4. Add the sliced onions to the skillet, cooking until they are translucent (about 5 minutes).
  5. Place the bratwursts in the skillet with the onions.
  6. Carefully pour the beer over the sausages and onions.
  7. Cover the skillet and reduce the heat to low, simmering for 10-12 minutes.
  8. Remove the lid; increase the heat to medium-high and cook for an additional 5-6 minutes, turning the brats occasionally until browned and cooked through.
  9. Serve brats in buns topped with sautéed onions and any additional toppings of your choice.
