Ingredients:
- 4 bratwurst sausages (approximately 14 oz or 400 g)
- 1 cup (240 mL) of your favorite beer (lager or pale ale works well)
- 1 medium onion, sliced (about 150 g)
- 1 tablespoon (15 mL) of olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh buns (4)
- Sauerkraut or grilled peppers (for topping)
Instructions:
- Slice the onion.
- Measure out the beer.
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the sliced onions to the skillet, cooking until they are translucent (about 5 minutes).
- Place the bratwursts in the skillet with the onions.
- Carefully pour the beer over the sausages and onions.
- Cover the skillet and reduce the heat to low, simmering for 10-12 minutes.
- Remove the lid; increase the heat to medium-high and cook for an additional 5-6 minutes, turning the brats occasionally until browned and cooked through.
- Serve brats in buns topped with sautéed onions and any additional toppings of your choice.
