Ingredients:

  • 6 medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji), peeled, cored, and sliced ¼-inch thick (approximately 900g)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (57g), cut into small pieces
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (50g)
  • 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar (50g)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup water (60ml)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions:

  1. Peel, core (if using an apple corer), and slice the apples into roughly ¼-inch thick slices.
  2. Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  3. Add both the granulated and brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt to the melted butter. Stir to combine.
  4. Add the sliced apples to the skillet. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the apples are tender and slightly caramelized, about 15-20 minutes.
  5. Pour in the water and lemon juice. Stir to combine. Bring to a simmer and cook for another 5 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly.
  6. Serve warm and enjoy!
