Ingredients:

  • 6 medium apples (such as Honeycrisp, Gala, or Fuji), peeled, cored, and sliced (about 3 lbs / 1.36 kg)
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick / 113g) unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup (50g) packed light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) water

Instructions:

  1. Peel, core, and slice the apples into even, approximately 1/4-inch thick slices.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter.
  3. Stir in the granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined.
  4. Add the apple slices to the skillet and pour in the water.
  5. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, then reduce heat to low. Cover the skillet and cook, stirring occasionally, until the apples are tender and the sauce has thickened, about 20-25 minutes. Ensure apples are soft but not mushy.
  6. Serve warm, either as a side dish or dessert.
