Ingredients:
- 6 medium apples (such as Honeycrisp, Gala, or Fuji), peeled, cored, and sliced (about 3 lbs / 1.36 kg)
- 1/2 cup (1 stick / 113g) unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup (50g) packed light brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 cup (60ml) water
Instructions:
- Peel, core, and slice the apples into even, approximately 1/4-inch thick slices.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter.
- Stir in the granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined.
- Add the apple slices to the skillet and pour in the water.
- Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, then reduce heat to low. Cover the skillet and cook, stirring occasionally, until the apples are tender and the sauce has thickened, about 20-25 minutes. Ensure apples are soft but not mushy.
- Serve warm, either as a side dish or dessert.
