Ingredients:

  • 8 ounces (227g) full-fat cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup (113g or 1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3-4 cups (360-480g) powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1 teaspoon (5ml) vanilla extract
  • 1-2 tablespoons (15-30ml) milk or heavy cream
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and butter together until light and fluffy.
  2. Gradually add the sifted powdered sugar, one cup at a time, beating on low speed to prevent a sugar cloud.
  3. Mix in the vanilla extract and salt until well combined.
  4. Add milk or heavy cream, one tablespoon at a time, until the icing reaches your desired consistency.
  5. For a firmer icing, cover the bowl with plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes (optional).
  6. Use immediately to frost your favorite cake or cupcakes. Enjoy learning how to make cream cheese icing!
