Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (140 g) Frozen Strawberries, packed
  • 1 medium (120 g) Ripe Banana, sliced and frozen
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) Milk (whole, almond, or oat)
  • 1/4 cup (60 g) Plain Greek Yoghurt
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) Honey or Maple Syrup (Optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) Vanilla Extract (Optional)
  • 1 teaspoon (5 g) Chia Seeds or Ground Flax Seed (Optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prep the Banana (If not already frozen): Peel the banana, slice it into 1-inch (2.5 cm) thick rounds, and freeze for at least 2 hours or until solid. (This step can be done days ahead).
  2. Load the Liquids First: Pour the milk (or milk alternative) into the blender jug. Add the Greek yoghurt, honey/maple syrup (if using), and vanilla extract. This protects the blades and creates a vortex for smooth blending.
  3. Add Soft Solids: Add the chia seeds or flax seed powder now.
  4. Add Frozen Ingredients: Add the frozen strawberry halves and the frozen banana pieces on top.
  5. Start Slow: Secure the lid tightly. Begin blending on the lowest setting for about 10-15 seconds to break up the frozen fruit chunks.
  6. Increase Speed: Gradually increase the speed to medium-high. Use the blender tamper (if available) to push the frozen ingredients down towards the blades, keeping the blend moving and preventing air pockets.
  7. Check Consistency: Blend until the mixture is uniform, thick, and completely smooth (usually 30–60 seconds, depending on the machine). There should be no visible ice shards.
  8. Adjust Thickness: If the smoothie is too thick and the blender is struggling, add 1–2 tablespoons (15–30 ml) of extra milk at a time until the desired consistency is reached.
  9. Taste and Adjust: Taste the finished Strawberry and Banana Smoothie and add a tiny splash more sweetener if required, blending briefly to incorporate.
  10. Serve Immediately: Pour the smoothie into a chilled glass and serve straight away to enjoy its frosty texture.
