Ingredients:
- 1 lb yellow onions, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup sour cream
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp fresh chives, finely chopped
Instructions:
- Heat the butter and olive oil over medium heat in a large non-stick skillet. Add the sliced onions and salt.
- Sauté the onions, stirring occasionally for 30–40 minutes, until they reach a deep mahogany color and jam-like consistency.
- Remove the pan from heat and transfer the onions to a plate to cool for at least 15 minutes.
- In a medium mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth.
- Fold in the sour cream, garlic powder, and black pepper until well combined.
- Gently stir in the cooled caramelized onions until evenly distributed.
- Refrigerate the dip for 1 hour before serving to allow the fats to set and the flavors to meld. Garnish with chopped chives if desired.
