Ingredients:

  • 1 lb yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp fresh chives, finely chopped

Instructions:

  1. Heat the butter and olive oil over medium heat in a large non-stick skillet. Add the sliced onions and salt.
  2. Sauté the onions, stirring occasionally for 30–40 minutes, until they reach a deep mahogany color and jam-like consistency.
  3. Remove the pan from heat and transfer the onions to a plate to cool for at least 15 minutes.
  4. In a medium mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth.
  5. Fold in the sour cream, garlic powder, and black pepper until well combined.
  6. Gently stir in the cooled caramelized onions until evenly distributed.
  7. Refrigerate the dip for 1 hour before serving to allow the fats to set and the flavors to meld. Garnish with chopped chives if desired.
