Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, cut into cubes
  • 4 ounces (113g) semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
  • 3/4 cup (150g) granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup (25g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup (60g) all-purpose flour
  • 4 tablespoons (57g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 ounces (85g) semi-sweet chocolate, melted and cooled slightly
  • 2 cups (240g) powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8x8 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on two sides.
  2. In a double boiler or heatproof bowl set over simmering water, melt the butter and chocolate, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together sugar, cocoa powder, and salt.
  4. Stir the sugar mixture into the melted chocolate mixture. Beat in vanilla extract.
  5. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, until well combined.
  6. Gently fold in the flour until just combined. Do not overmix.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs attached.
  8. Let the brownies cool completely in the pan before frosting.
  9. In a medium bowl, beat the softened butter until smooth. Beat in the melted chocolate until combined.
  10. Gradually add the powdered sugar, alternating with the milk, until the frosting is smooth and creamy. Beat in the vanilla extract.
  11. Spread the frosting evenly over the cooled brownies. Cut into squares and serve.
