Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, cut into cubes
- 4 ounces (113g) semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
- 3/4 cup (150g) granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup (25g) unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup (60g) all-purpose flour
- 4 tablespoons (57g) unsalted butter, softened
- 3 ounces (85g) semi-sweet chocolate, melted and cooled slightly
- 2 cups (240g) powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup (60ml) milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8x8 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on two sides.
- In a double boiler or heatproof bowl set over simmering water, melt the butter and chocolate, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together sugar, cocoa powder, and salt.
- Stir the sugar mixture into the melted chocolate mixture. Beat in vanilla extract.
- Beat in the eggs, one at a time, until well combined.
- Gently fold in the flour until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs attached.
- Let the brownies cool completely in the pan before frosting.
- In a medium bowl, beat the softened butter until smooth. Beat in the melted chocolate until combined.
- Gradually add the powdered sugar, alternating with the milk, until the frosting is smooth and creamy. Beat in the vanilla extract.
- Spread the frosting evenly over the cooled brownies. Cut into squares and serve.
