Ingredients:
- 1 pound (450g) ground pork sausage
- 1 tablespoon (15ml) maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon (5ml) dried sage
- 1/2 teaspoon (2.5ml) black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon (1.25ml) red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon (1.25ml) salt
- 1 tablespoon (15ml) vegetable oil
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, gently combine the ground sausage, maple syrup, sage, black pepper, red pepper flakes (if using), and salt. Avoid overmixing!
- Divide the sausage mixture into 6-8 equal portions. Gently form each portion into a patty about 1/2 inch thick.
- Place the patties on a plate or tray lined with parchment paper. Cover and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes.
- Heat the oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the patties to the skillet (don't overcrowd – work in batches if necessary).
- Cook for 5-7 minutes per side, or until cooked through and no longer pink inside. The internal temperature should reach 160°F (71°C).
- Remove the patties from the skillet and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess grease. Serve immediately.
