Ingredients:
- 6 medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix), peeled, cored, and sliced (approximately 1.35 kg)
- 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons (30ml) lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon (5ml) ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon (1.25ml) ground nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons (30ml) all-purpose flour (plain flour)
- 1 cup (120g) all-purpose flour (plain flour)
- 1 cup (85g) rolled oats (not instant)
- 3/4 cup (150g) packed light brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon (2.5ml) ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon (1.25ml) salt
- 1/2 cup (115g) cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, granulated sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and flour. Toss to coat evenly.
- Pour the apple mixture into the prepared baking dish.
- In a separate bowl, combine flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
- Cut the cold butter into the dry ingredients using a pastry blender or fork until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Evenly sprinkle the crisp topping over the apple filling.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 40-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbly.
- Let the crisp cool slightly before serving.
