Ingredients:

  • 2 cups (240g) powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2-3 tablespoons (30-45ml) whole milk or heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon (5ml) pure vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Gather all ingredients at room temperature.
  2. In a mixing bowl, add softened butter and sifted powdered sugar.
  3. Using a hand mixer or stand mixer, blend until fully combined and smooth.
  4. Gradually add milk (1 tablespoon at a time) and vanilla extract to the mixture.
  5. Continue mixing until the icing is light and fluffy, adjusting consistency with more milk if needed.
  6. Taste and adjust with more vanilla extract or powdered sugar until reaching desired sweetness and consistency.
  7. Spread immediately on cooled cakes or cupcakes, or store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week (re-whip before using).
