Ingredients:

  • 2 cups (240g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 3/4 cup (180ml) whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons (30g) unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (120g) powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine egg, milk, melted butter, and vanilla. Mix until smooth.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir gently until just combined (do not overmix).
  4. Cover the bowl with a kitchen towel and let the dough rest for 30 minutes.
  5. On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thick. Use the cutter to create donuts and holes.
  6. Heat oil in the frying pan to 375°F (190°C). Use the thermometer to check the temperature.
  7. Fry donuts in batches until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes per side. Use a slotted spoon to remove and drain on a wire rack.
  8. In a bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
  9. Dip the cooled donuts into the glaze and let excess drip off. Allow to set on the rack.
