Ingredients:
- 2 cups (240g) all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 3/4 cup (180ml) whole milk
- 2 tablespoons (30g) unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup (120g) powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons (30ml) milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.
- In a separate bowl, combine egg, milk, melted butter, and vanilla. Mix until smooth.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir gently until just combined (do not overmix).
- Cover the bowl with a kitchen towel and let the dough rest for 30 minutes.
- On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thick. Use the cutter to create donuts and holes.
- Heat oil in the frying pan to 375°F (190°C). Use the thermometer to check the temperature.
- Fry donuts in batches until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes per side. Use a slotted spoon to remove and drain on a wire rack.
- In a bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
- Dip the cooled donuts into the glaze and let excess drip off. Allow to set on the rack.
