Ingredients:
- 1 (14.3 ounce / 405g) package Oreo cookies (Original flavor)
- 4 ounces / 113g cream cheese, softened (full-fat, for best flavor)
- 12 ounces / 340g semi-sweet chocolate chips (or your favorite chocolate for melting)
- 1 tablespoon / 15 ml vegetable shortening (optional, for smoother chocolate)
- Sprinkles, for decoration (optional, because everything's better with sprinkles!)
Instructions:
- Pulse the Oreos in a food processor until they are finely crushed. Alternatively, place them in a zip-top bag and crush them with a rolling pin.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the crushed Oreos and softened cream cheese. Mix until a smooth, dough-like consistency is achieved.
- Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the mixture to firm up. This makes rolling easier.
- Roll the Oreo mixture into 1-inch balls. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate chips in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth. If the chocolate is too thick, stir in the vegetable shortening.
- Dip each Oreo ball into the melted chocolate, using a fork or dipping tool to coat completely.
- Immediately sprinkle with sprinkles, if desired.
- Place the truffles back on the parchment paper-lined baking sheet and refrigerate until the chocolate is set (about 15-20 minutes).
