Ingredients:

  • 1 (14.3 ounce / 405g) package Oreo cookies (Original flavor)
  • 4 ounces / 113g cream cheese, softened (full-fat, for best flavor)
  • 12 ounces / 340g semi-sweet chocolate chips (or your favorite chocolate for melting)
  • 1 tablespoon / 15 ml vegetable shortening (optional, for smoother chocolate)
  • Sprinkles, for decoration (optional, because everything's better with sprinkles!)

Instructions:

  1. Pulse the Oreos in a food processor until they are finely crushed. Alternatively, place them in a zip-top bag and crush them with a rolling pin.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the crushed Oreos and softened cream cheese. Mix until a smooth, dough-like consistency is achieved.
  3. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the mixture to firm up. This makes rolling easier.
  4. Roll the Oreo mixture into 1-inch balls. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  5. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate chips in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth. If the chocolate is too thick, stir in the vegetable shortening.
  6. Dip each Oreo ball into the melted chocolate, using a fork or dipping tool to coat completely.
  7. Immediately sprinkle with sprinkles, if desired.
  8. Place the truffles back on the parchment paper-lined baking sheet and refrigerate until the chocolate is set (about 15-20 minutes).
