Ingredients:

  • 4 medium apples (such as Honeycrisp, Braeburn, or Gala), peeled, cored, and sliced (approx. 700g / 1.5 lbs)
  • 4 medium pears (such as Bartlett, Bosc, or Anjou), peeled, cored, and sliced (approx. 700g / 1.5 lbs)
  • 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 2 tablespoons (30g) unsalted butter, cut into small cubes
  • 1 cup (120g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup (50g) almond flour (ground almonds)
  • 1/2 cup (100g) packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (115g, 1 stick) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/2 cup (50g) slivered almonds

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, pears, sugar, lemon juice, and cardamom. Toss well. This is the base for your pears and apples crumble.
  3. Pour the fruit mixture into the prepared baking dish. Dot with the butter cubes.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine all-purpose flour, almond flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
  5. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender, fork, or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the slivered almonds.
  6. Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the fruit filling.
  7. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the fruit is tender and bubbly.
  8. Let the crumble cool for at least 10-15 minutes before serving.
