Ingredients:
- 4 medium apples (such as Honeycrisp, Braeburn, or Gala), peeled, cored, and sliced (approx. 700g / 1.5 lbs)
- 4 medium pears (such as Bartlett, Bosc, or Anjou), peeled, cored, and sliced (approx. 700g / 1.5 lbs)
- 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons (30ml) lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon ground cardamom
- 2 tablespoons (30g) unsalted butter, cut into small cubes
- 1 cup (120g) all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup (50g) almond flour (ground almonds)
- 1/2 cup (100g) packed light brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup (115g, 1 stick) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1/2 cup (50g) slivered almonds
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, pears, sugar, lemon juice, and cardamom. Toss well. This is the base for your pears and apples crumble.
- Pour the fruit mixture into the prepared baking dish. Dot with the butter cubes.
- In a separate bowl, combine all-purpose flour, almond flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
- Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender, fork, or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the slivered almonds.
- Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the fruit filling.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the fruit is tender and bubbly.
- Let the crumble cool for at least 10-15 minutes before serving.
