Ingredients:

  • 2 cups (240g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon (4g) salt
  • 1 teaspoon (4g) sugar
  • 1 teaspoon (7g) active dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup (180ml) warm water (about 110°F/43°C)
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) olive oil
  • 1 cup (240g) canned crushed tomatoes
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 1/2 cups (150g) shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Optional toppings: pepperoni, bell peppers, onions, olives, etc.

Instructions:

  1. In a small bowl, mix warm water and sugar. Stir in yeast and let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. In a small saucepan, sauté minced garlic in a bit of olive oil. Add crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt, and pepper, and simmer for 10 minutes. Set aside.
  6. Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C).
  7. Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into two. Roll out one piece into a 10-inch circle on a floured surface.
  8. Transfer the dough onto a baking sheet or pizza stone. Spread a layer of tomato sauce, sprinkle mozzarella cheese, and add any desired toppings.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes until the crust is golden brown and cheese is bubbling.
  10. Allow the pizza to cool for a few minutes, slice, and enjoy.
