Ingredients:

  • 3 ½ cups (440g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 ½ cups (360ml) warm water (110°F or 43°C)
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 can (15 oz or 425g) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups (200g) shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup (50g) grated Parmesan cheese
  • Assorted toppings (like pepperoni, bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, etc.)

Instructions:

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit until frothy, about 5-10 minutes.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add activated yeast and olive oil.
  3. Mix until the dough begins to come together. Transfer to a floured surface.
  4. Knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size (approximately 1 hour).
  6. While dough is rising, combine crushed tomatoes, garlic, oregano, and basil in a pan. Simmer for 10-15 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
  7. Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) and place your baking sheet or pizza stone inside to heat.
  8. Once the dough has risen, punch it down, divide it into two portions, and roll each out into a 12-inch circle.
  9. Place the shaped dough on parchment paper (if using). Spread tomato sauce, sprinkle mozzarella, and add any desired toppings.
  10. Transfer the pizza to the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling.
  11. Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, slice, and enjoy!
