Ingredients:
- 8 ounces (225g) cream cheese, softened
- 4 cups (480g) powdered sugar, sifted
- 1/2 cup (1 stick or 113g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 teaspoon (5ml) pure vanilla extract
- 2-4 tablespoons (30-60ml) milk or cream
- Optional: Food coloring (gel food coloring recommended)
- Optional: 1/4 teaspoon (1.25ml) of your favorite extract flavor
Instructions:
- Ensure both cream cheese and butter are properly softened.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and cream cheese together until smooth and creamy.
- Mix in the vanilla extract and your favourite extract.
- Gradually add the sifted powdered sugar, one cup at a time, beating on low speed until incorporated.
- Add milk or cream, one tablespoon at a time, until the frosting reaches a smooth, easily spreadable consistency for this cake pop frosting recipe.
- If desired, divide the frosting into separate bowls and add gel food coloring, mixing until evenly colored.
- If you're doing a candy coating, gently melt your candy melts in a double boiler or microwave, following package instructions. Be careful not to overheat!
- Dip your cake pops into the frosting or melted coating, tap off excess, and decorate immediately with sprinkles, sanding sugar, or other decorations.
- Allow the cake pops to set completely on a cake pop stand or parchment paper-lined baking sheet.
