  • 8 ounces (225g) cream cheese, softened
  • 4 cups (480g) powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick or 113g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon (5ml) pure vanilla extract
  • 2-4 tablespoons (30-60ml) milk or cream
  • Optional: Food coloring (gel food coloring recommended)
  • Optional: 1/4 teaspoon (1.25ml) of your favorite extract flavor

Instructions:

  1. Ensure both cream cheese and butter are properly softened.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and cream cheese together until smooth and creamy.
  3. Mix in the vanilla extract and your favourite extract.
  4. Gradually add the sifted powdered sugar, one cup at a time, beating on low speed until incorporated.
  5. Add milk or cream, one tablespoon at a time, until the frosting reaches a smooth, easily spreadable consistency for this cake pop frosting recipe.
  6. If desired, divide the frosting into separate bowls and add gel food coloring, mixing until evenly colored.
  7. If you're doing a candy coating, gently melt your candy melts in a double boiler or microwave, following package instructions. Be careful not to overheat!
  8. Dip your cake pops into the frosting or melted coating, tap off excess, and decorate immediately with sprinkles, sanding sugar, or other decorations.
  9. Allow the cake pops to set completely on a cake pop stand or parchment paper-lined baking sheet.
