Ingredients:

  • 3 cups (360g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons (7g) active dry yeast
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons (7g) salt
  • 1 1/4 cups (300ml) warm water (approximately 110°F/43°C)

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, yeast, and salt.
  2. Pour in warm water and stir until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  4. Cover the bowl with a towel or plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. Turn the dough onto a floured surface, shape it into a round loaf, and place it on a baking sheet lined with parchment.
  6. Cover and let it rise for another 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).
  8. Using a sharp knife, make a shallow slash or cross on the surface of the dough.
  9. Optional—Place a dish of water in the oven for steam. Bake the loaf for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. Remove from oven and let cool on a wire rack before slicing.
