Ingredients:

  • 1 cup water
  • 4 oz semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • Pinch of salt
  • Whipped cream or marshmallows (optional)
  • Additional ground cinnamon or chili powder (for dusting)

Instructions:

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the milk and water. Heat over medium heat until warm but not boiling.
  2. Add the chopped semi-sweet chocolate to the liquid, whisking continuously until fully melted.
  3. Stir in the sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, cayenne pepper, and a pinch of salt. Adjust the sweetness and spice to your preference.
  4. Whisk the mixture until it is frothy and well combined. Remove from heat.
  5. Ladle the hot chocolate into mugs. Top with whipped cream or marshmallows if desired, and sprinkle with additional cinnamon or chili powder for garnish.
