Ingredients:
- 300g Strong Bread Flour, plus extra for dusting
- 7g Dried Active Yeast
- 5g Caster Sugar
- 5g Sea Salt
- 200ml Warm Tomato Juice
- 30ml Olive Oil, plus extra for greasing
- 1 Large Egg, beaten
- 1 tbsp Sesame Seeds or Poppy Seeds, for sprinkling (optional)
- 600g Ground Beef (80/20 blend)
- 1 Small Onion, finely chopped
- 2 Cloves Garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
- 1 tsp Smoked Paprika
- Salt and Black Pepper, to taste
- 2 tbsp Olive Oil or Vegetable Oil, for cooking
- 4 Slices Cheddar Cheese
- Lettuce Leaves
- Sliced Tomato
- Sliced Red Onion
- Pickled Gherkins
- Your favourite Burger Sauce
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt.
- Mix in the warm tomato juice and olive oil until a shaggy dough forms. Knead until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and divide it into four equal portions. Shape each portion into a smooth round bun.
- Place the buns on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, cover, and let rise again.
- Brush the buns with egg wash, sprinkle with seeds (if using), and bake until golden brown.
- Gently combine the ground beef, onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
- Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each into a patty.
- Heat the oil in a griddle pan or frying pan. Cook the patties until browned and cooked through. Add cheese in the last minute.
- Slice the tomato buns in half. Spread with your favorite sauce. Layer with lettuce, tomato, red onion, gherkins, burger patty, and top bun. Serve immediately.
