Ingredients:

  • 2 ¼ cups (280 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup (226 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup (150 g) granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup (165 g) packed brown sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups (340 g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Optional: 1 cup (100 g) chopped nuts (e.g., walnuts or pecans)

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes using an electric mixer).
  3. Beat in eggs one at a time, followed by vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
  4. Gradually mix in the dry ingredient blend until just combined (avoid overmixing).
  5. Gently fold in the chocolate chips (and nuts, if using) using a spatula.
  6. Cover the dough with plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  8. Scoop the chilled dough onto a lined cookie sheet, leaving space between each cookie.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes until the edges are golden and the center is soft.
  10. Remove from the oven and allow cookies to cool on the sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.
