Ingredients:
- 2 cups (240g) all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- ½ cup (113g) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1 cup (240ml) buttermilk, chilled
- Fresh herbs (optional, e.g., rosemary or chives)
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar.
- Add the cold, cubed butter into the dry ingredients. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to blend until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Make a well in the center of the mix and pour in chilled buttermilk. Stir gently with a spoon until just combined; do not overmix.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface. Knead gently 4-5 times until smooth.
- Roll the dough to about ½ inch thick. Use a biscuit cutter to cut out the biscuits and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
- Remove from the oven and cool slightly before serving warm.
