Ingredients:

  • 1 1/4 cups (150g) all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) milk (whole or 2% is best)
  • 2 tablespoons (28g) unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Seeds from 1/2 vanilla bean (optional)
  • 1 1/2 cups (180g) powdered sugar
  • 3-4 tablespoons (45-60 ml) milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease donut pan(s) thoroughly.
  2. Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together sugar, egg, milk, melted butter, vanilla extract, and vanilla bean seeds (if using).
  4. Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Transfer batter to a piping bag (or use a spoon) and fill each donut cavity about 2/3 full.
  6. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Let the donuts cool in the pan for a few minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Add more milk for a thinner glaze, or more powdered sugar for a thicker glaze.
  9. Dip the cooled donuts into the glaze, let the excess drip off, and place back on the wire rack to set.
  10. Serve immediately and prepare for compliments!
