Ingredients:
- 3 tbsp (42g) unsalted butter
- 2 large (300g) yellow onions, thinly sliced
- 3 tbsp (25g) all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp (3g) salt
- 1/4 tsp (1g) black pepper
- 3 cups (710ml) beef broth
- 1 tbsp (15ml) Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp (5ml) soy sauce
Instructions:
- Melt the butter over medium heat in a heavy-bottomed skillet or saucepan.
- Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until they transition from translucent to a deep, golden brown.
- Sprinkle the flour over the browned onions and stir constantly for 1–2 minutes until the flour is fully absorbed and smells slightly nutty.
- Slowly pour in the beef broth while whisking or stirring vigorously to prevent lumps.
- Stir in the Worcestershire sauce and soy sauce.
- Bring to a gentle simmer for 5–10 minutes until the sauce is velvety and coats the back of a spoon.
